Sheffield’s beauty queen Christine Crapper recently passed away at 69. She was with her family when she passed away at Ashgate Hospice after a short battle with lung cancer. During an interview, the daughter revealed, “My mum was a loving, warm person with a beautiful smile. She was thoughtful, she was a good friend, and she was a very kind person, and I think that will be her legacy."
On July 2, 1953, Christine was born and grew up on Heeley Bank Road. Georgia also revealed that her mother wanted to try her hand at the beauty pageants, and she was asked to model in her school uniform at 11. When she was sixteen, she was taught the trade at Lucy Clayton Modelling School in Manchester, and by the next year, she had won Miss Britain.
In the following years, she came first runner-up at Miss Great Britain and also took home Miss Yorkshire Television 1975 and Miss She 1978. And in the same year, the beauty queen became a household name as one of the hostesses on ITV’s primetime show Sale of the Century with Nick Parsons.
Christine left the show business to raise her daughter after she met her husband, Patrick Crapper. Later in her career, she became a property landlord and championed charity causes like Sheffield’s Weston Park’s Cancer Charity.
